Behind the Scenes of our Winter14 Collection: Indian Bazaar January 28 2015, 0 Comments

Here’s a little peak into how it all comes together….

Sketches: Our starting point – we design for movement and ease of use to make dressing  baby a no fuss (and hopefully fun) event.  We also make sure the design details and patterns reflect that fun spirit of childhood play.

Colors: We carry-through a few signature colors each season for a consistent look, however, we always look for new Pantone colors that are vivid and playful (unfortunately, Pantone’s color of the year – Marsala – didn’t make our cut). And yes, sometimes we find color inspiration from our crayon box or in our closets!

CADS: To simulate how our final product will look – we make-up CADS of each pattern and style combination to make sure it’s to our liking (this is where we adjust colors/scale of pattern/and even design details).

Design board: Every piece and color needs to stand-alone, but also work together as a cohesive collection which is why we do a mapping exercise – making sure we don’t have too many designs in one color, or ensuring that we have separates that match.

The full design process spans about 15 months from start of sketching to in-market pieces.  It’s actually an on-going process, as we’re always designing and looking for new colors and pattern inspiration (from Indian landscapes, architecture, animals, clothing, nature and more…).
